Neptune vs canister based surgical waste management in Europe

Discover our study carried out in the United Kingdom and Spain to compare the waste disposal impact of Neptune 3 and canister devices in different areas:

Environmental impact

98.5%

Reduction in total weight of treated waste compared to canisters*

Staff safety

34 kg

Neptune has shown a 95.8 % (34 kg) reduction in weight of surgical fluid waste handled by HCPs.*

Efficiency

19 minutes

Neptune has shown 19.4 minutes time saved disposing of surgical fluid waste when compared to canisters.*

User satisfaction

88%

OR nurses (n = 43) were very satisfied or satisfied with the set up; emptying/disposing of the waste; use of the IV pole; general performance

Neptune Life Cycle Assesment

This Life Cycle Assessment was conducted by GreenCycl, environmental experts specialised in conducting LCAs in the Netherlands on the collection and disposal of intra-operative collected fluids using conventional cannisters vs. the Neptune 3 system.

"From an environmental perspective, it is good to see that the plastic waste generated is reduced. In doing so expensive incineration costs have been reduced."

Sanna Alho, Assistant Head Nurse, Kokkola Hospital Finland
